Health Connections is a health education, health promotion 501c3 non-profit organization with a focus on developing healthier communities, in primarily lower income communities, by bringing people and resources together to achieve healthier lives.
The principal focus of our work is to help people and communities be healthier by implementing policies and programs which prevent the use of tobacco and reduce the abuse of alcohol and drugs. Health Connections uses evidence-based strategies to address these areas and typically works in collaboration with other community organizations and/or town officials.
Health Connections is a member of the Randolph Area Opiate Response Team and is taking the lead on helping the town work towards applying for the Drug-Free Communities Grant. The Drug-Free Communities Grant would bring $125,000 into the town for youth substance abuse prevention programs.
Most of our work targets youth and their parents. When youth understand the importance of and practice making healthy choices for their lives now, then there is increased likelihood that they will continue to make healthy choices for their lives as adults, and reduce their risk of chronic disease. Parent Up Vt is a great resource for immediate help and planning materials.
But this is not to say that Health Connections does not work with or target health improvement initiatives toward adults. Our quit tobacco programs (tobacco cessation) is one example of how Health Connections helps adults improve the health quality of their lives. To realize significant health improvement, however, individual change is not enough. There must be policies and a community environment that seeks to promote healthy living as well. Health Connections engages community members, businesses, social service organizations, local governments, and schools to work together to build healthier communities and to develop support systems such as the Randolph Area Opiate Response Team.
Health Connections serves the towns of Bethel, Chelsea, Hartford, Norwich, Randolph, Royalton, Sharon, Stockbridge, Stratford, and Tunbridge. With regard to helping people quit tobacco, our service area expands to include all towns in northern Windsor and Southern Orange counties in VT and the NH towns in Grafton County, NH.
Health Connections is also an 802quits partner.
